Why We Get Involved

Supporting our community is every bit as important to us as supporting our clientele. We’ve worked hard not only to rise to the top of Orange County’s real estate industry, but to make philanthropy one of our top priorities as an organization. Each and every one of our agents and employees places value in giving back. As such, we’re involved with a wide variety of charitable programs, foundations, and services, and offer a “matching” donations program to put financial support behind the special causes our agents believe in.


  • Blood Drives – Giving blood means giving life, which is why Surterre partners with the American Red Cross to hold blood drives at our Newport Beach headquarters on a semi-annual basis.
  • Toys for Tots – Each holiday season, we partner with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots Program to collect toys and bring joy to less fortunate children in our community.
  • Habitat for Humanity – In partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Surterre’s agents give back in a way that’s truly hands-on, rolling up their sleeves and working as a team to build brand-new homes for highly deserving families in Orange County.
  • Miracles for Kids – A nonprofit whose mission is to improve the lives of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses—not to mention the lives of the families who care for them—Miracles for Kids is an important organization we’re proud to support.

A fixture in Southern California’s luxury real estate market for more than twenty-five years, Gary Legrand has led the industry to new levels of innovation, service, and success. In launching Surterre Properties®, which he co-founded in 2006, he introduced to Orange County a new standard in the way of outstanding real estate service—one that’s upheld by a team of more than 430 top-performing professionals. With offices in Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar, Monarch Beach, San Clemente, and Irvine in addition to its Newport Beach headquarters, Surterre maintains the majority market share in much of coastal Orange County year after year. Before launching Surterre Properties, Legrand led teams at many of the region’s most successful real estate firms, including Coldwell Banker Previews. A longtime Newport Beach resident, he was also an investor and CFO for Coast Newport Properties.

A nationally recognized real estate marketing and branding expert, Paula Ansara-Wilhelm is a creative visionary whose work has changed the way people buy and sell property. Upon creating the Surterre brand and co-founding Surterre Properties in 2006, she established the Surterre Studio—the only full-service advertising agency of its kind in the real estate community. Under Paula’s leadership, the Studio has received more than 60 awards to date—and, even more importantly, it’s created an immeasurable advantage for Surterre’s agents and brokers, who utilize the Studio’s talented team of 15 to develop customized marketing plans for their homes. Prior to her work at Surterre, she co-founded Strada Properties and headed the marketing efforts at Coldwell Banker Previews, Strada Properties, Coast Newport Properties, Century 21, and E.R.A. She also worked at major ad agencies like Foote, Cone & Belding, and Bozell Worldwide. Today, she is on the board of Miracles for Kids, a nonprofit with a mission to improve the lives of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
